The Givens Grove

Fuzzy Buns Galore

I know this may come as a complete shock but……………I got baby chicks.  And lots of them.   Two roosters, Elvis and Texas, and 22 hens.  Eeeeekkk!

The look on Logan’s face of sheer joy and happiness pretty much mirrors my own.  Our intention was to hold off on farm animals until after the remodel was complete.  But seriously.  It’s been over a year without homegrown farm eggs and this girl just couldn’t wait any longer.  It’s not like I showed any warning signs or anything, here.

This was my fourth or fifth time purchasing from My Pet Chicken and they have yet to disappoint.  We ordered several old faithful breeds that we’ve had before like Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn, Speckled Sussex and Red Star.  But we also got some really awesome special breeds for the first time like Swedish Flower Hen, Lavender Orpington and Cream Legbar.  This fall when the girls start laying it’s going to be like my first egg all over again.

We are going to train the chicks to an electric fence that will be moved every couple of days to hopefully keep them safe from coyotes this time around but still let them forage as much as possible.

Keeping my fingers crossed!
